| Healthcare - Nursing/Care Facilities
All Nursing and Care Facilities have to assess the level of their Fire risk, taking into account matters such as sprinkler systems, fire escapes, level of staffing, patient mobility etc. The assessment as to whether the facility is Low, Medium or High Risk will determine what level of fire resistance is necessary to protect the furniture and soft furnishings in the facility. This entire process is regulated by BS7176, and uses EN1021-1 & EN1021-2 test methodologies (as well as Crib 5 is some circumstances) to assess the Fire resistance of fabrics. The problems occur due to a facility having been furnished prior to the introduction of BS7176, or the level of Fire Hazard has increased due to BS7176 or a change in patient status within the facility (e.g. from care to nursing).
